Year-by-year income method
How each method works

Income based. For each working year until retirement we take your income, remove tax and what you spend on yourself, and bring the rest to today's value at the safe-investment return. This year's income is the starting point, and growth applies from the next year. The total is your Human Life Value. Loans are not added on top, because EMIs are paid out of the income being replaced.

Need based. We add what the family would need: living costs for the years you choose (rising with inflation, EMIs excluded), loans, child and other goals (rising with goal inflation) and an emergency fund, all in today's value.

Gap. Value or need, minus your existing life cover and usable savings. A gap of zero means you appear covered on that method.
